The Colour of Home – Mary Hoffman

Beschreibung

Hassan experiences a sense of displacement in a new, cold, and gray country. At school, he creates a painting depicting his vibrant Somali home, overlaid with the stark colors of war, which forced his family to flee. Sharing his journey with his teacher, Hassan describes their travels from Mogadishu to Mombasa, then to a refugee camp and finally to England. However, a shift begins to occur. When Hassan’s parents display his subsequent artwork, he notices the maroon prayer mat, a bright green cushion, and his sister Naima’s pink dress – these new colors symbolize the evolving concept of home.
